Inextricably tied to the cultural tapestry of the Dominican Republic, my paintings are declarative moments that capture humanity through the eyes of an artist. My works address my subjects with a tenderness and intimacy that draws the viewers warmly into the figurative narratives. I chose quiet moments, brought alive through composition, vibrant color palette and energetic painterly mark-making. Ultimately, my subject matter is intertwined with the history of my people -- both my immediate family which I often depict, as well as my various communities. The works then become a practice of self-reflection, a thoughtful exploration of my own identity as an immigrant and my relationship to concepts of home and belonging. Ultimately, my paintings uncover an identity as layered and complex as the many snapshots I paint from.
